We walked Jack London Square on Monday and came up with three sites for projection, all of them offering a Different Kind of Yes. Eliot thinks the above site may be on top os the Skate Park, in which case I bet you can find us by Triumphant Grid of Palm Trees at the absolute end of Broadway.

dAs mentioned Big City Orchestra will be six: he and Ninah joined by Wobbly, the Bran(pos), Alan Herrick (Nux Vomica) and Mark Wilson (Conure), two digital and three 16mm projectors.

Sade will be roaming in the Red Wagon we introduced at the Art Murmur, and may take over the Children’s Stage (a wee bandshell) once the kids area shuts down at dark.

Chris and Jess will have a moving image of water that catches fire when you walk through it. Don’t miss this.

Talked with Theo Konrad Auer while setting up for the oakuff salon: art@theoakbook has a gallery directly opposite the old barnes and noble in jack london square where oakuff throws down, and I saw this michel gondry animation spring out of the top of one venue and embrace the other. Apologies to anyone who tried to talk to me at that moment, perhaps I looked kinda far way. Then Theo walked up. Then Terry Furry, instigator.

We’re studying the map to see how to draw a line of light from the live art component of the party to the art@oakbook gallery, which will be opening that night with a new show of Daniel Healey, epic. Theo agreed to curate a crush of imagery for us to project, don’t miss.

Rather last-minutely, and just to keep the peoples filled with delight, illCorr is rustling up some public art, film and live music at some interstitial spot during the East Bay Express’  annual party. We do this not because we’ve abandoned site-specific work (we haven’t, patience, thanks), but because we read our names in the East Bay Express ad and thought, o!

How hard would that be?

San Francisco Cinematheque is kicking off its spring season with Apparent Motion, a two-day celebration of the art of live image projection: the cinematic exhibition apparatus exposed as a primal light and sound machine, an invention without a future, ripe for rediscovery. That’s Steve Polta’s text by zee vay.

IllCorr is co-presenting because it gives our audiences a chance to see many illCorr artists inside, which we will never do for you, but happily the fine people at SFCinematheque will. Good chance to see the Cinepimps with enough circuit (well, maybe) and east-coast collaborators Sandra Gibson & Luis Recoder and many more. Totally reasonably priced and a great snapshot of the live cinema genre, so go, and queue up early to see what Killer Banshee and Wolfram Projections do with that absorbing red brick facade.

Art IS Education is celebrating its tenth year with a month of community events. illCorr Extended will be leading artwalks between the three Art Murmur venues presenting the work of youth that night, half parade, half crossing guard, hopefully with some good results on moving facade illumination. Just look for the bikes showing movies between Rock Paper Scissors, Creative Growth and 21 Grand.

i mean it, not a corridor

Someone pointed out the highly formal language appearing in East Bay Express and Estuary Art Attack promo referring to “the artists of the illuminated corridor”. Eyebrow raised. But really, truly, the side projects (here, or here) are really intentionally not Corridors, which have all kinds of risk and velocity. There are these other quiet corners for concentration, and, in some cases, incubation.

But it’s a big summer for outdoor cinema in Oaklandia, based, imho, on a sophisticated civic assumption and the cost of an indoor movie ticket: Temescal, Jack London Square, new indoor work from Swarm, Great Wall’s monthly screening and the persistent feeling that one can’t go out without seeing something lit up just because we can, just because we (in that cinema paradiso way), should.

The East Bay Express really wanted a Corridor, but were very cool and accepting of the alternative.  Look for a little bit of  Liberation Drive-In that night.
